SPAL sacks Roma legend De Rossi from his first coaching job

After just four months in charge of the Serie B club, SPAL announced De Rossi's dismissal on Valentine's day saying five other members of his staff have also lost their jobs.

Daniele De Rossi

has left his position as technical assistant to Italy manager Roberto Mancini this summer to pursue an independent career in Italy's second division. Sitting 18th in the Serie B table, SPAl has only won five of their starting 24 league matches as they face a survival race to avoid relegation to Serie C.

As a result, the club confirmed the 117-cap midfielder for Italy has been fired from his job along with five other members of his staff. Massimo Oddo will replace him at the dugout with fellow former Italy star Stefano Fiore joining as a technical collaborator.

De Rossi was a member of Mancini's staff when Italy won the postponed Euro 2020 tournament on penalties against England at Wembley Stadium last year. He also earned 117 international caps for Italy, helping the team win the 2006 World Cup and continuing to play until 2017. He left Roma in 2019 and played briefly for Boca Juniors before making the transition to coaching and joining Mancini in the Azzurri setup.
