Haller hails Dortmund fans after his late debut’s standing ovation
Despite his summer move from Ajax, the Ivorian striker had to wait until this Sunday to make his Dortmund debut as he was diagnosed with testicular cancer days after the transfer.
After beating cancer and getting a clean bill of health,
Sebastian Hallerreturned to football action this month with a hat-trick in a friendly game against Basel before making his competitive debut in
Dortmund's 4-3 victory over Augsburg.
Coming in as a substitute, the striker received a standing ovation from the fans at Signal Iduna Park.
After the game, he told broadcaster
DAZN: "
The welcome I received was something unbelievable, unforgettable.
"I was just happy to be here and to take my first steps on the pitch.
"It's something we can take with the team, this atmosphere, we can use [it] to win games."
On his fitness level, the Ivorian added:
"There are still a few things to do to reach my full fitness.
"For the moment I'm just focused on the work. You will see in the next weeks and months how it's going."
Currently sixth in the Bundesliga table, Dortmund will next face
Mainz
on Wednesday.
