Breaking: Memphis Depay joins Atletico on a €4m deal from Barcelona
Depay, whose contract with Barca was due to expire this summer, is bound to join Atletico Madrid after rejecting offers from Newcastle and Galatasaray last summer.
According to
Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona and
Atleticohave agreed on a deal worth up to €4 million over a transfer for
Memphis Depay. The deal between the clubs was hammered after Depay refused to appear for the Blaugrana's training following Xavi Hernandez's comments, who announced he would be talking to Memphis about his future at Barca.
On the other side, contrary to earlier rumors about
Yannick Carrascotrying to force his way to Camp Nou, he will stay put at Atletico.
Atletico offloaded Matheus Cunha earlier this window to Wolverhampton on loan with an obligation to buy. Joao Felix has also been loaned to Chelsea with Diego Simeone being expected to reinvest the fee earned in the Atleti squad. Memphis Depay emerged as a possible reinforcement in their attack line, especially with the Dutch striker eager to move on.
Despite his great start at Barcelona last season, Depay has found no place in Xavi’s
Barcelonasince Koeman’s sacking. The former Lyon winger has only featured in 122 minutes of game time for Barcelona so far this season.
