Official: Chelsea sign Joao Felix on loan until the end of the season

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has joined Chelsea on a six-month loan deal.

Chelsea

confirmed on Wednesday that they have signed

Joao Felix

from

Atletico Madrid

on a six-month loan deal. The Blues reportedly will pay an €11 million of loan fee to Atletico and will cover all of his wages.

Joao Felix told Chelsea’s official website:

“Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge.”

The 23-year-old joined Atletico Madrid from Benfica for a club-record transfer worth €126 million in 2019. It was the fourth-most expensive football transfer ever, the second-most ever paid for a teenager, and the highest fee for a Portuguese player leaving the domestic league.

The Portuguese forward won La Liga with Atletico in 2021. Felix won the best young player in Europe award in 2019 and was also named Atletico Player of the Season last term by the club’s supporters. Despite scoring 34 goals in 131 matches, Felix has not managed to fully live up to expectations.

Joao Felix scored in Portugal’s opening game against Ghana at the 2022 World Cup and provided two assists during the tournament. He already has played 28 times for Portugal.

Chelsea is currently sitting in 10th in the Premier League table after 17 games on 25 points. They have already signed Benoit Badiashile, David Datro Fofana, and Andrey Santos in January.
