Rio Ferdinand advises Harry Maguire to depart Man United this January
Falling out of the pecking order at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag, Maguire only managed six starts across all competitions this season. With the Dutch coach opting to utilize Shaw at the heart of the defense, the Man United legend advises Maguire to leave the club.
Despite being a keystone for Gareth Southgate in the 2022 World Cup,
Harry Maguire
has only managed six starts for the Red Devils this season, only one in five matches after the World Cup.
Amid speculations that
Aston Villa
is interested in signing the 29-year-old defender, Rio Ferdinand advises the
Manchester Unitedcentre-back to put a January move in his priority.
Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel,
Vibe With Five:
"If you're [Maguire], you have to leave now. Luke Shaw’s playing centre-back instead of him.
"That's like me going back after the World Cup, playing well, everyone saying he's done really well, and Patrice Evra is playing centre-back.
"I'd want to strangle Patrice! I would've smashed Patrice in training to make sure he's not available, and I'd be going to the manager and saying, 'are you taking the p*** out of me, boss?'.
"I'd have walked straight into the manager's office and said, 'you're disrespecting me'. Harry Maguire's got to move.
"I think he stays because of the games, and they can’t get someone else in. He plays in the cup games."
