Rafael Leao close to extending AC Milan contract

Rafael Leao is close to signing a new contract with AC Milan to keep him at San Siro beyond the 2023/24 season.

According to Sky Sport Italia,

Rafael Leao

is getting closer to signing a new contract with Milan. Leao’s current contract with

Milan

 runs until 2024.

Chelsea was very interested in signing him last summer but they could not reach an agreement with Milan. The English club is close to signing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for €127m in the January transfer window and Sky Sport claims that Milan is confident

Chelsea

has given up on signing Leao. Manchester City also is interested in signing him but it is unlikely they would try to sign him in January.

The new contract that Milan is offering Leao is said to be around €7m in yearly wages. They are also ready to help him to pay off the outstanding €21m fee he owes to Sporting CP.

The 23-year-old winger joined Milan from Lille in 2019 in a deal worth €35 million. He has scored 34 goals in 135 matches for the Italian club and won the Serie A last season.

Leao scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in the Serie A last season and was awarded the Serie A MVP award. The Portugal international has already scored 7 goals and provided 9 assists this season. He also scored two goals for Portugal in the World Cup.
