Chelsea open talks with Benfica after Enzo Fernandez agrees to join Blues

Enzo Fernandez has reportedly agreed to join Chelsea as the Blues open direct transfer talks with Benfica.

According to Fabrizio Romano,

Chelsea

has started the negotiations with Benfica for

Enzo Fernandez

. Romano claims that Chelsea want to offer huge fee instead of paying release clause in one solution. Benfica always asked full €120m clause. That would be a new club-record transfer for the Blues.

The Argentinian press also reported on Thursday that the negotiations between Chelsea and Benfica is advanced. Telemundo’s Veronica Brunati also claimed that Fernandez already has accepted Chelsea’s offer and is ready to join the London club. Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Enzo Fernandez already has said yes to Chelsea.

Benfica

president Rui Costa said on Thursday that they only would sell Enzo Fernandez if they receive an offer of €120m.

"We don't want to sell Enzo Fernandez in January, but we are willing to satisfy the boy in the event of an offer of €120m,”

Costa told DAZN.

The 21-year-old midfielder played a key role in Argentina's World Cup triumph and was named the young player of the tournament. Fernandez scored 12 goals in 51 matches for River Plate and joined Benfica on a five-year deal for €10 million last summer.

Europe's top clubs including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Newcastle have been linked with Fernandez following his impressive performances at the World Cup but it seems Chelsea is the frontrunner to sign him.
