Liverpool confirms the signing of Dutch winger Cody Gakpo

Despite being heavily-linked with Manchester United, Cody Gakpo signs for Liverpool as confirmed by the club

After a relatively short transfer saga,

Cody Gakpo

officially signs for Liverpool as their first signing of the January transfer window.

Gakpo recently starred for Netherlands in the World Cup becoming their best scorer with 3 goals while his performances for PSV prior to the World Cup had already piqued Premier League’s attention.

While Gakpo was heavily linked with Manchester United, the Red Devils failed to register any substantial offer. Although United’s hesitance may have been due to the Glazers wanting to sell the club and not looking into investing money in the club any further.

Nonetheless, Liverpool has managed to sign Gakpo in a bargain £37million deal as PSV are going through a financial rough patch. The 23-year-old has talked to the Reds official Website, reaving his feelings by stating:

"I feel really good, I'm really excited to be here. I'm looking forward to start training and start playing for this amazing club.

"I think this is a great club for me to come in and try to show what I can [do] and try to help the team to achieve more beautiful moments that they already did in the past years.

"I think for me personally it's also good to develop here and there's a lot of great players here [who] I can learn a lot of things from."

Gakpo, who has scored 9 goals and recorded 14 assists for PSV, could add a lot to

Liverpool

’s attacking force as they have struggled with inconsistency all through this season.
