Lewandowski dishes out on the reason he joined Xavi’s rebuild despite being 34

Former Bayern Munich talisman sees his time at Barcelona as a “challenge to win”

Having already “won everything with Bayern”,

Robert Lewandowski

’s decision to join Barcelona was a curious one since the club is in a rebuilding state and Lewandowski (34) may not have that many years in the top level of football. But the Polish star claims that him joining Barca is a “challenge to win” both on a personal and a professional level.

Talking to the Sport outlet, Lewandowski opened up about his reasons of joining Barcelona.

“I know I’ve won everything with Bayern, but for me to take a new step in my career, to move forward… to be part of Barça… It’s not just for the club, but also on a personal level… It is a challenge. To win, to be the best club again, with the best players, playing the best football… I wanted to be part of this moment and not only want to live the experience, but also contribute my quality, my abilities.”

Lewandowski told Sport.

With Barcelona not being in a great financial state as well as Lewandowski being well into his 30s, Barca’s decision to give him a 4-year contract was a strange one but the Barca talisman begs to differ.

“I know that I can be at this level for the next three years because I’ve been working like this for ten or fifteen years, to play as much as possible. I don’t feel older than my colleagues, not due to my age. My physique is very good and there are different ways to experience it. Barca is a huge challenge and I wanted to be part of this new project.”

He added.

Regardless of his doubters,

Blaugrana

’s investment on Lewandowski has already paid dividends since he’s already scored 18 goals this season, with only Mbappe and Erling Haaland having scored more than him in Europe’s top leagues.
