Barcelona and Xavi trying to convince Busquets to stay

Barcelona wants to convince Sergio Busquets to stay at the club for one more year.

According to Diario AS,

Barcelona

manager Xavi Hernandez is trying to convince

Sergio Busquets

to stay at Camp Nou until 2024. Busquets will be a free agent at the end of the season and some reports in recent weeks suggested that he may even leave the club in January.

Diario AS claims that Barcelona is confident that Busquets will stay until the end of his contract but they want to extend it. This report says that Busquets is still in Xavi’s plans and he counts on his experience and leadership.

Xavi is expected to talk with Busquets in the coming days to convince him to sign a new contract. Busquets has been linked with the MLS sides and it is expected he will play in the USA after leaving Barcelona.

The Spanish midfielder joined Barcelona's academy in 2005 and made his first team debut in 2008. Since then he has made over 600 total appearances for the club and has won 30 major trophies, including 8 La Liga titles, 7 Copa del Rey titles, and 3 Champions Leagues.

After the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the 34-year-old Busquets announced his retirement from international football. He helped Spain to win the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.

Busquets has played in 16 matches for Barcelona this season including 12 matches in La Liga. Barcelona is at top of the table with 37 points after 14 matches.
