"I was not interested in the World Cup", says Jorginho

Chelsea and Italy midfielder Jorginho admits he was not interested in watching the World Cup games.

European champion

Italy

did not play in the

2022 World Cup

after its defeat against North Macedonia in the play-off last March and hence the Four-time champions failed to qualify for a second consecutive World Cup.

Italy finished second in their group behind Switzerland during the World Cup qualification stage. Chelsea midfielder Jorginho missed two penalties in two games against Switzerland. The 2022 World Cup in Qatar finished with Argentina's victory against France on penalties in the final.

Jorginho

said he was not interested in the World Cup and only watched the last few matches.

“It was very hard, especially at the beginning. It was very hard. I didn’t want to watch games,”

he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I went on a trip with my family. I only watched a couple of games of friends who were playing, but I didn’t even know the kick-off time.

“I didn’t want to watch, I was not interested. Towards the end, the Jorginho lover of football was back and started watching something.”

The 31-year-old Jorginho made his Italy debut in 2016. He has scored five goals in 46 international appearances and was part of the squad that won the Euro 2020.

Jorginho is under contract with Chelsea until the end of the season and is expected to leave the Blues in the summer. Jorginho has won the Europa League and the Champions League with Chelsea.
