The 2018 World Cup runners-up were eying another shock with

Brazil

being the favorite to win Qatar 2022. However, the odds were against the Europeans as they lost four of their last five games against South American sides in the World Cup.

Although Brazil dominated South Korea 4-1 in their round of 16 tie,

Croatia

was held to a 1-1 draw with Japan as Livakovic earned them a 3-1 penalty victory over their Asian rivals. Meanwhile, Brazil was holding a four-match unbeaten run against Croatia since a 2-0 friendly victory in 2018.

As expected, Brazil dominated the possession in the first half as Zlatko Dalic's side made it impossible to create a chance as the best chances the Brazilians had was half-chances through Vinicius Junior and Neymar before the two teams settling on a goalless draw for the first half. The hassle continued for remainder of the match as Croatians' tactical mastery held Brazil frustrated. However, Neymar came to rescue in the 105th minute, finishing off after a chicky one-two with Paqueta.

However, Bruno Petkovic scored the equalizer in the 117th minute as the match proceeded to the penalty shoot-out.

Croatia proceeded to the semi-finals after winning in the penalty shoot-out.
