Lewandowski reacts to his three-match ban: It's too long

Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski says his three-match suspension for a red card against Osasuna is too severe.

La Liga confirmed on Wednesday that

Robert Lewandowski

has been handed a three-game suspension after being sent off against

Osasuna

.

Lewandowski who is preparing for the World Cup with Poland has told reporters that his punishment has been harsh.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the World Cup, he said:

An excessive sanction, too severe.

For me, it’s too long. The gesture was not directed at the referee, but towards the bench. I hope the appeal prospers.”

The former Bayern Munich star also rejected the claim that there is a bias against him and

Barcelona

.

He said:

“I don’t think that the Committee that is in Madrid has sanctioned me with more games because they are important matches for Barcelona, against Espanyol and Atlético, I simply think it is too high.”

“I am confident that Barça will manage to reverse the situation,”

he added.

Lewandowski was sent off in the 30th minute against Osasuna after he received his second yellow card but La Liga decided to hit him with a further two-game ban for his gesture toward the referee when walking off the pitch.

The 34-year-old striker who has scored 18 goals this season including 13 league goals will miss matches against Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, and Real Betis after the World Cup.

Poland is in Group C with Argentina, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia. Lewandowski's side will face Mexico in their first game on November 22.
