’s final match before the World Cup. It was just the second red card of Lewandowski's career.

Lewandowski rubbed his nose with his index finger and then pointed back at the referee as he walked off the pitch. The Competition Committee has decided to hit Lewandowski with a further two-game ban for showing disrespect towards the officials. Lewandowski denied the gesture was meant for the official and claimed that it was intended for his coach Xavi Hernandez but RFEF overlooked his explanation.

Lewandowski

therefore will miss matches against Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, and Real Betis after the World Cup. The 34-year-old striker joined Barcelona from Bayern last summer. He has scored 18 goals for his new team including 13 goals in La Liga.

Gerard Pique who has retired from football also has been hit with a four-game suspension. He received a red card while he was on the bench against Osasuna. Since Pique has retired from football, he just has to pay a fine of 2400 euros.
