Guardiola praises youngster Rico Lewis for his UCL performance
After helping Manchester City come back from 1-0 down to win the match, “clever” Rico Lewis was lauded for his performance
Rico Lewis became the youngest player ever to score on his debut as a Champions League starter and helped the Citizens achieve 3-1 victory over Sevilla, garnering the admiration of his manager, Pep Guardiola.
Guardiola fielded a much younger City side against Sevilla in the final match of the Group G as his team had already secured the top spot in their group. However, the Andalusians managed to draw first blood as Rafa Mir scored the opener but Rico Lewis then managed to level the game, beating Benzema’s record for being the youngest player to ever score in his first UCL start, by being 17 years and 346 days old.
Julian Alvarez then scored
City’s second goal with a beautiful Kevin De Bruyne assist and then Mahrez scored late to make it 3-1.
"What a goal, he's a fantastic player. He's so intelligent," Guardiola said of the right-back. "Apart from the skills, he's so intelligent, so clever.”
Guardiola told BT Sport.
"He understands everything. He made a fantastic goal, high past the goalkeeper, and played really well.
"We have a young squad, we have some older players but it's a young squad. Julian is young but top-class, and Rico, and of course, Sergio [Gomez].
"They played in the Champions League against Sevilla, an experienced team, and for prestige, money, everything, it was important."

"He's an enormous talent. He's been with us a long time.
"For him to get the opportunity of playing practically the full game and to score, you can see his quality. Brilliant things from him, he just needs to keep working.

"It was one of those games, everything is settled in the group, it's a game in which you need to perform because the rhythm is going with non-stop games."
