Pep Guardiola delays Man City contract negotiations until World Cup

Ahead of their match with their weekend title opponents, Liverpool, Pep Guardiola dodged a question about his Man City contract situation as his current contract expires next summer.

at Anfield on Sunday and Guardiola's side have lost two of their last three meetings against the Reds. Ahead of their Premier League tie with Jurgen Klopp’s side, the City boss was puzzled by questions about his ongoing contract situation. Three months into the final year of his contract with the Citizens,

Pep Guardiola

is yet to sign a contract extension.

Guardiola told his pre-match conference:

"As you know, I'm not thinking one second about that.

"Two or three weeks before the World Cup, [games are] the most important thing."

Guardiola dominated English football domestically, however, the 51-year-old is yet to bring European success to Manchester City.

 

Liverpool

, which has always been Manchester City's rival in winning the Premier League title until the final weeks of the league, has not had a good start this season and is now 13 points behind the Citizens and 14 points behind the leaders However, Guardiola believes that Liverpool is still the biggest threat in their Premier League title race.

Asked if Liverpool will challenge them, Guardiola said:

"Always have been, always, will be. I know the quality they have. If you asked this question with 10 games left I would say I don't think they can catch the top of the league, and in that case Arsenal, but now anything can happen."
