British clubs' national anthem request before CL gets denied by UEFA
Chelsea, Manchester City, and Rangers’ request to play God Save the King after a period of silence out of respect for her majesty Queen Elizabeth II was denied by UEFA, who insisted that there will be no anthems before the Champions League games on Wednesday.

Rangersasked for God Save the King anthem to be played after the moment of silence for Queen Elizabeth II. However, UEFA has turned down the three British clubs’ request regarding the national anthem being played before the Champions League games on Wednesday.
According to other reports, some fans are considering disobeying UEFA’s decision as Rangers’ supporters are said to be planning to sing the anthem ahead of the game to pay their respect to The Queen.
UEFA rejected the request and told Sky Sports News:
"There will be no anthems played - this also includes the UEFA Champions League anthem - on the basis of maintaining a consistent pre-match ceremony with a subdued atmosphere and without any celebratory activities across all UK venues to show respect as we did last Thursday."
For the Rangers’ battle against Napoli, which was rescheduled from Tuesday to Wednesday, only the former’s fans will be present at the stadium as there is a lack of police resources. Also, there will not be any away fans in attendance in Naples, either.
In all the games the UK clubs will have, their players are expected to wear black armbands for The Queen and be part of the period of silence.
Last weekend, all the clashes across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland were postponed following the death of the Queen at the age of 96. The games are scheduled to be played this weekend; however, due to a lack of police numbers for Manchester United vs Leeds and Chelsea vs Liverpool on Sunday, the games have been rescheduled. Brighton vs Crystal Palace, on the other hand, had already been postponed for rail strikes.
All Champions League games that involve British clubs will go as planned, but Rangers vs Napoli will be played a day later on Wednesday.
EFL and non-League games are going to continue from Tuesday, whereas according to FA, Women’s Super League will also come back this weekend. Moreover, all the matches that are scheduled on Monday September 19, will be suspended as it is the day of The Queen’s funeral.
