Euro 2022 winner Keira Walsh joins Barcelona on a world record deal

As the Blaugrana was battling time to sign the Man City star before the Wednesday deadline, the Citizens reluctantly agreed to sell their midfielder after rejecting three previous offers. The English midfielder joins Barca for an undisclosed fee that sets a new world record in women's soccer.

has officially announced the signing of the Euro 2022 final's player of the match,

Keira Walsh

for a world-record fee.

The

Lionesses

star has signed a three-year contract with the Spanish giants as the transfer sets a new record fee paid for a female soccer player despite the player being in the final year of her contract.

Pernille Harder'

s £300k move to

Chelsea

from Wolfsburg in September 2020 was the previous world record fee paid for a female.

Manchester City

has already lost a lot of their key players, with Caroline Weir joining Real Madrid, Georgia Stanway signing for Bayern Munich, and

Lucy Bronze

moving to Barcelona.

Walsh

played a key role for England as they won

Euro 2022

this summer. The 25-year-old has made 189 appearances since her Man City debut in 2014, scoring eight goals. A regular for Lionesses, Walsh has also capped 49 times for her national team.

Man City

are now looking at replacements for Walsh before they kick off their new league campaign on Sunday at home against

Arsenal
