Ander Herrera returns to Athletic Bilbao on loan

Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera returns to his old club on a loan deal.

Athletic Club

and

Paris Saint-Germain

have reached an agreement for

Ander Herrera

to join the Lions on loan for this season. The deal includes an option to extend the loan for a second campaign or make the move permanent.

Herrera joined PSG in 2019 as a free agent. He made 95 appearances and scored six goals over the last three years. During his time in Paris, the midfielder won two Ligue 1 titles and two Coupes de France.

Herrera was initially insistent that he would see out his final two years in PSG but he was frozen out in the French capital as PSG look to urgently offload some of their squad before deadline day. In the end, he decided to leave in order to play regularly.

Herrera first joined Athletic from Real Zaragoza in 2011. He scored 11 times in 128 matches at Athletic and helped them to reach the Europa League and Copa final in 2011/12.

The 33-year-old Herrera joined Manchester United in 2014 and won the League Cup, the FA Cup, and the Europa League.
