Xavi reacts to Dest's Manchester United rumors amid fullback shortage

To register their signings such as Jules Kounde, Barcelona has to sell players to balance their payroll as Dest appeared to the club as a perfect candidate attracting the interest of the Red Devils. Xavi reacts to Dest’s rumors confirming their interest in Chelsea’s Azpilicueta.

Despite failing to sign Chelsea’s

Cesar Azpilicueta

and being short in the position, the

Barcelona

boss still doesn’t find the American defender suitable for his squad.  Speaking at his pre-match press conference,

Xavi

was asked about Barcelona’s right-back situation.

The Spaniard said:

“We wanted to sign [Cesar] Azpilicueta and it couldn’t be.

“We’ll see what we do. Sergino Dest? He knows about the situation. Frenkie de Jong is a spectacular player with a lot of leadership.”

Manchester United

are reportedly interested in signing the Ajax academy graduate,

Sergino Dest

, to reunite him with their new boss, Eric ten Hag.

The USA defender

was considered a raw talent when he joined Barca, and now after two seasons in this club, he still hasn't been able to make the progress he was supposed to. Last season, after Dani Alves joined Barca in January, he lost his place in the team altogether.

Azpilicueta arrived at

Chelsea

from Marseille in 2012 and has won nine major trophies, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League. He reportedly was impressed by Barcelona’s offer of a long-term contract and felt ready for a new challenge, but the arrival of

new owner Todd Boehly

appears to have influenced proceedings as the American businessman was keen to let Thomas Tuchel have the final say on Azpilicueta’s future.
