Official: Stoke City signs Manchester City’s Liam Delap on loan

The highly rated 19-year-old striker has officially joined the Championship side on loan, earning his first taste of senior game-time.

Manchester City announced

on Thursday that

Liam Delap

will follow in the footsteps of his father, Rory, by joining

Stoke City

. Rory Delap is a former Manchester City player and currently a first-team coach at Stoke City.

The medical reportedly took place yesterday and the full agreement was signed this morning as

Fabrizio Romano

confirmed Manchester City rejected a £16m bid from

Southampton

and another permanent bid from Newcastle United as the Citizens count on the youngster for their future plans.

Stoke boss Michael O’Neill told

the club’s official website

:

“It’s no secret that we have been looking to bring Liam to the club.

“We have been in dialogue with City for some time now and had the opportunity a few weeks ago to outline our plans for Liam.

“We are grateful to them for the trust they have placed in us and we are really excited about working with Liam.”

 

Contributing 64 goals in a total of 69 career appearances, Delap burst onto the scene with a goal on his senior debut for

Man City

two years ago, earning five more senior caps in addition. He was included in City’s squad for last weekend’s 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth.

With four points from their first four matches, Stoke City will next face

Sunderland

on Saturday.
