Mertens rejected Juve’s offer to join Galatasaray

Erden Timur, the Galatasaray vice-president, has announced that the Bianconeri made a €5m offer for Dries Mertens, but the ex-Napoli striker did not want to betray his old club.

Dries Mertens

penned a contract with

Galatasaray

this week and departed

Napoli

after a nine-year spell as he joined them back in 2013.

Reports claim that Juventus were keen on signing the Belgium international when he hit free agency and the Turkish side have confirmed those reports.

“Juventus offered him a contract worth €5m, I saw it with my own eyes,”

said Galatasaray vice-president

Erden Timur

on the official club website.

“He didn’t want to end his career with the Bianconeri due to the rivalry with Napoli, so he refused their offer and decided to accept our proposal.”

A situation same as this one was speculated to be happening for Kalidou Koulibaly, who attracted the attention of the Bianconeri when he did not want to sign an extension with Napoli, but he decided to join Chelsea.
