West Ham confirm £17.5m signing of Maxwel Cornet from Burnley

West Ham have completed the signing of Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet for £17.5m.

The 25-year-old has signed a five-year deal with an option for a sixth year. He will play for

West Ham

in the No. 14 shirt.

Maxwel Cornet

finished his medical on Friday and then signed personal terms. He is David Moyes' fifth big summer signing, after

Gianluca Scamacca

(£35.5m), Nayef Aguerd (£30m), Alphonse Areola (£10.5m), and Flynn Downes (£12m).

At first, it seemed like West Ham would prefer a loan, but the club was willing to pay Cornet's release clause. "Joining this big club is a new step for me, and I'm really glad to be here and help with the club's project. He said, "I'm just happy to get started." "Everyone knows that the Premier League is a very high, and that's why I want to play here. I'm happy to be here for the next step in my career."

"It will be great to play at London Stadium in front of 62,500 fans. Last season, I played here for Burnley, and I can't wait to play here for West Ham." Cornet was great for Burnley last year, even though they were relegated. He scored nine goals and had one assist in 26 games.

David Moyes

, the manager of West Ham, said, "We are thrilled to have Maxwel join West Ham United. He is a versatile player who has played in both the Premier League and European football. He will give our team more strength and quality.

"He made a big impression last season with how he played for

Burnley

, and I'm impressed by how much he wants to get better and try new things here at West Ham. We're excited to have Maxwel join the group, and we wish him the best as he works with us."
