Giroud says he'll ‘pay for dinner’ when Ibrahimovic signs with Milan

Olivier Giroud thinks it's great that Zlatan Ibrahimovic is likely to stay at Milan for another season.

Olivier Giroud

joked that he would buy

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

dinner if the Swedish striker signed a new contract with Serie A champions Milan. Ibrahimovic, who will be 41 in October, is now a free agent after his contract with

San Siro

ran out last week.

Milan is said to have offered the veteran a one-year deal, even though he is old and had health problems that kept him from playing in more than 12 games last season. Only

Rafael Leao

(14) and Olivier Giroud (14) scored more goals than Ibrahimovic (8) last season. Giroud is hoping to play with Ibrahimovic again this season.

Giroud told

Tuttomercatoweb

, "When he signs the renewal, I'll pay for dinner." "We want him to sign, but we're not putting any pressure on him. "He is still hungry, and the locker room needs him. I talked with him a lot. He still wants to win even though he is 40."

Giroud's goals helped Milan win the Scudetto for the first time in 11 years. This was the Frenchman's first season with Milan after moving from Chelsea. It was Giroud's second domestic league title. In 2011-12, he won the Ligue 1 title with Montpellier.

Milan finished two points ahead of rival Inter, and Juventus was 16 points behind in fourth place, but World Cup winner Olivier Giroud thinks both teams will be stronger next year.

"The teams that have improved the most are Juve and Inter, so it will be a tough battle between them and us," Giroud said. Stefano Pioli's team has gotten better since Milan won the title in May. Striker Divock Origi is one of the players who has joined since then.

The Belgium striker scored 22 goals in 107 Premier League games for

Liverpool

, but he only started 34 of those games. Giroud is happy to have more competition.

"He speaks French, so I played the big brother role because it's important to make everyone feel welcome, even if I'm going to be competing with him," Giroud said. "I have always said that competition is a great way to get stronger, learn more, and do your best. It's a good way to show you care."
