Ronaldo lauds Real Madrid's Marcelo: "A brother that football gave me"

Marcelo has left Real Madrid after 15 years of devotion, and former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo has given the Brazilian icon his wholehearted approval.

Upon Marcelo's farewell from

Real Madrid

, Cristiano Ronaldo offered a touching homage to the Brazilian, describing him as "more than a team-mate" throughout their time together in Madrid.

Marcelo had a tearful press conference on Monday to bid farewell to

LaLiga

powerhouse, where he spent 15 years and won 25 championships, making him the club's most accomplished player.

A significant part of that success came with Ronaldo, with the two forming a fantastic partnership down the left side that was crucial in the club's years of

Champions League

dominance.

Before leaving for Juventus and subsequently Manchester United, Ronaldo became the club's all-time greatest scorer during that period, and the Portugal legend still holds his former teammate in high respect.

"More than a team-mate, a brother that football gave me," he posted on social media.

"On and off the fields, one of the biggest stars with whom I had the pleasure of sharing a locker room.

"Go with everything on this new adventure, Marcelo!"

Marcelo, 34, has stated that he has no plans to retire and that if he were to face Real Madrid as an opponent, he would not hesitate to do so.

"I won't retire, not now," he said. "I feel I can still play. Facing Real Madrid won't be a problem. I'm a big Madridista but I'm also a big professional."
