Scholes: Man Utd's dressing room is an absolute mess, it is a disaster

The loss against Arsenal has destroyed Manchester United's chances of finishing in the top four, and Paul Scholes believes the atmosphere in the dressing room is degrading.

Manchester United

's locker room is "an absolute wreck," according to Paul Scholes, after the Red Devils' bad run persisted with a 3-1 loss against Arsenal on Saturday.

United's chances of completing the

Premier League

in top four were all but dashed at Emirates Stadium, as they suffered their third defeat in four top-flight appearances.

Cristiano Ronaldo's 100th goal in the tournament was not enough as Arsenal won thanks to Nuno Tavares' opening, a Bukayo Saka penalty, and Granit Xhaka's 25-yard strike.

The Red Devils have now lost four consecutive league fixtures away from home for the first time since losing six in a row between December 1980 and 1981.

As he opened up about a recent conversation with Red Devils player Jesse Lingard, Scholes said his old side is in turmoil behind the curtains as he reflected on United's latest defeat.

"It is an absolute mess," Scholes told DAZN. "It is a disaster of a dressing room.

"I had a quick chat with Jesse the other day, and I'm sure he won't mind me saying that the dressing room is just a disaster."

United are six points below the top four with one game remaining, and interim coach Ralf Rangnick has admitted that their

Champions League

ambitions are dead.

Rangnick, who will be succeeded by

Erik ten Hag

at the conclusion of the season, said there is no serious issue with the changing room when asked about Scholes' comments.

"Obviously after games like today or the games at Liverpool or Everton, there is massive disappointment in the locker room for sure. This is normal," Rangnick said.

"But it would be rather a problem if that was different, so this is for me normal. I think the whole group, they get on reasonable with each other.

"I'm not daring to say they get on well with each other, but I don't see that there is an issue with regard to the atmosphere in the locker room."

United have yielded 51 Premier League goals this season, marking the second time in their history that they have conceded 50 or more in a single season (54 in 2018-19).

Rangnick's team will play Chelsea at home on Thursday, followed by a visit from Brentford four days later.
