Dortmund boss calls Haaland an 'absolute weapon' ahead of Bayern match

Borussia Dortmund is on the rise. Marco Rose enjoyed comparing the influence of Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski ahead of Der Klassiker.

Borussia Dortmund

's attacking abilities make Erling Haaland "an incredible weapon," according to manager Marco Rose, who compares the striker to

Bayern Munich

's Robert Lewandowski.

In the latest round of Der Klassiker, the two

Bundesliga

giants face this weekend, with Julian Nagelsmann's side ready to clinch the championship against their main rivals with a win.

The brilliance of two of European football's most talismanic forwards, Poland's Lewandowski and Norway's Haaland, will certainly determine the outcome.

The latter is set to perform his concluding few games for the Black and Yellow in the following weeks, and is widely anticipated to complete a major transfer to a European rival during the close-season, with Manchester City massively tipped to win the contest for his signing.

But his efforts have been essential to Dortmund and manager Rose, who praised him and Lewandowski's abilities before of their match.

"They have different strengths," he stated. "Lewandowski serves all facets with more experience and drops a lot.

"He's in a good position in the box too though. His first contact is world class.

"[But] Erling has also made progress this season. In the transition game, he is an absolute weapon.

"His header game has also gotten much better. When the ball comes into the box, both know exactly where the goal is."

Dortmund's latest Bundesliga Klassiker triumph came in 2018, when Lucien Favre's side beat Bayern 3-2 at home.

Rose understands that it is past time for his team to rise to the occasion in the Bundesliga's most important match, and that the importance of the event motivates them to do so.

"It's a classic," Rose added. "It's also about reputation. A win in Munich is always good. We don't want to just defend.

"Bayern can become champions on Saturday and will perform accordingly. We want to prevent that.

"We played a good game last Saturday, we need that performance at an even higher level and consistently over 90 minutes."
