Inaki Williams's astonishing six-year run in LaLiga still counting

Athletic Bilbao's Inaki Williams started versus Celta Vigo on Sunday, six years after he last missed a LaLiga match.

Inaki Williams

has been the cornerstone for

Athletic Bilbao

for the past six years, having not missed a single

LaLiga

fixture.

Williams began the match against Celta Vigo on Sunday by partnering Oihan Sancet up top.

That means the 27-year-old – who is under the agreement until 2028 and appears to be committed to Bilbao for the rest of his career – has now appeared in 227 straight LaLiga matches, a record in the competition.

When Williams participated in his 203rd LaLiga match in a row earlier this season, he broke the previous record held by Juanan Larranaga.

On April 17, 2016, the Spaniard last missed a Primera Division match, when Athletic defeated Malaga 1-0.

Williams came in as a substitute in Athletic's 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid four days later and then played in the club's final four Premier League games as they narrowly lost out on

Champions League

spots.

In each of the intervening seasons, the forward has appeared in all 38 LaLiga games, with 189 starts.

Williams' goal total isn't quite as amazing, with 44 in the league since the start of the 2016-17 season, including seven so far this season.
