Antonio Conte
is reportedly requesting that Tottenham Hotspur raid
Inter Milanfor center-back
Alessandro Bastoni, who might become available if
Stefan de Vrij
's contract is extended.
After two seasons at San Siro, in which he won Serie A and advanced to the Europa League Final, he left owing to disagreements over transfer strategy. This was due to Inter's financial difficulties, which necessitated the sale of talents such as
Achraf Hakimi
and Romelu Lukaku.
Conte is now turning to the Nerazzurri for defensive reinforcements, according to Calciomercato.com. The first choice would be Bastoni, whom Conte assisted in developing into a deep-lying playmaker in the Leonardo Bonucci mold. This week marks the 23rd birthday of the Italy international, who just extended his contract until June 2024. The initial plan was for Inter to sell De Vrij, but according to the same source, no serious bids have been made for the Dutchman.
Instead, Inter might profitably sell Bastoni while also extending De Vrij's deal. Inter paid €31.1 million for Bastoni, a product of the Atalanta development academy, in 2017 and sent him out on loan to Atalanta and Parma before he became a vital player for them in 2019.
