Abdelmonem as the Player of the Week at CAF Champions League
The 23-year-old has been named the Player of the Week for the CAF Champions League match day 2.
After the 2021 AFCON breakout, where he had to play although he was not a starter instead of
Ahmed Hegazi
and
Mahmoud Hamdy El-Wensh
who are injured,
Al Ahlyasked for
Mohamed Abdelmonem
to return from his loan with Future FC.
The centre-back’s first game came in the Club World Cup playoff for third place against
Al-Hilal, where he contributed to a 4-0 victory.
His next start was a few days after that in the CAF Champions League against Sudan’s Al-Hilal and notwithstanding being held to a goalless draw, Abdelmonem pulled off an impressive display.
The 23-year-old was the only player to have been part of the names for CAF Champions League’s Team of The Week. The fans have voted for him as the best player of the game.
Al Ahly are placed second in Group A with only one point and they are three points adrift of Mamelodi Sundowns, who lead the group. However, they have a game in hand, missing the first game.
