The 4 Main Reasons Why Sports Players Should Know English

English is the most commonly used language in the world of sports.

Whether you're a player, coach, referee, or spectator, it's important to know at least some English to communicate with others and understand what's going on. Here are 4 main reasons why sports players should know English.

1. English is the Language of Sports

English may not be spoken in your home country, but it's usually spoken in every other country around the world. This means that you will need to know English if you want to play sports abroad and at international levels. You can contact an

English school in London

to get all of the information you need on how to get started as a beginner. For example, if you're a player from Japan who wants to play basketball professionally, then English skills are almost essential for communicating with teammates and coaches on the field. The same goes for any sport - whether you're playing or watching!

2. Being Able to Communicate Will Enhance Your Teamwork

If you don't speak English well enough yet, you will struggle to understand instructions and communicate with your teammates - which can make teamwork difficult. If all players cannot communicate freely with each other out on the field, then they can't work as a team and your performance will suffer. Also, your teammates may not understand why you're doing something and they won't be able to help you. If you speak English, then communication with your teammates is much easier- meaning improved teamwork and more support out on the field!

3. Playing Will Be More Fun

If being able to communicate with others makes sport more fun, then not being able to communicate makes it less fun! If English skills are still developing when you start playing sports, the lower skill level will be frustrating for yourself and everyone else involved in the sport. If English skills are at higher levels instead, then

communication

will become much easier and everything about the sport will be better. Also, there's more to sports than just playing - English skills can also help you enjoy watching and learning about the sport too!

4. Playing Will Be More Rewarding

Other players and coaches may judge you on your English skills and not give you as much recognition for good work out on the field. If this happens, then it will not feel as rewarding to play- which can be disappointing. This type of situation can happen if you can't communicate with others very well, which makes it even more important that your English skills are good enough for this purpose. Whether watching a live game or a broadcasted one, understanding the commentary will give you a much more enjoyable experience. In addition, if you're an English learner, then struggling to understand what's going on may mean that your studying doesn't go very well - which won't be good for your learning. This is also important if you're planning to follow sports from all around the world.

Whatever your reasons for playing sports might be, you will find that English skills are important. It is virtually impossible to avoid English if you want to play sports. You need to know at least some basics to communicate with others and better enjoy the game!
