Nigeria reaches the next round of AFCON with 3-1 win

The Super Eagles find their way into the next round by defeating Sudan.

Nigeria

has made it official for themselves that they are going to be in the knockout stage of the Africa Cup of Nations by a 3-1 victory over

Sudan

in Group D of the competition.

The Super Eagles almost sealed the victory in the first half as

Samuel Chukwueze

and

Taiwo Awoniyi

scored their side’s first two goals, but they kept their domination over Sudan in the second half too.

Nigeria’s first goal came in the first five minutes of the game when Samuel Chukwueze opened the scoring with a fine finish in an opportunity that was provided for him from a long throw into Sudan’s penalty area.

Augustine Eguavoen’s

men didn’t lower the pressure after the first goal and kept pushing the opposition, and in the 45th minute of the game, Taiwo Awoniyi doubled the lead for Nigeria, heading the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal from a chance that was created over a set-piece.

Following a great first-half performance, Nigeria started the second half with so much determination that in the first minute of the second half they managed to score the third goal, and although they conceded a goal which made the game 3-1, the Super Eagles managed to secure their place in the next round.
