Newcastle to acquire Atletico’s Trippier on a £12m deal

Newcastle United

and will undergo his medical in Tyneside as he has agreed on personal terms.

Atletico Madrid

wanted the 31-year-old to remain put, but the player had set his heart on a return to England.

Trippier will be Newcastle’s first signing after the new owners took over the club. Eddie Howe, the club manager, worked with the defender previously when he was coaching Burnley, acquiring his services from Manchester City in 2012 as he impressed on his loan spell at Turf Moor.

Premier League

. They are currently sitting second-bottom in the table after 19 matches, two points away from safety.
