Newcastle close to sign Tripier from Atletico Madrid
Newcastle hope to make a big difference in their result with winter transfer window.
Newcastle have been closely monitoring the English defender for a long time and Eddie Howe wants to strengthen his side's defensive line by hiring him. Howe had previously worked with Tripier during his time at Burnley and knew him well. In 2012, he signed Tripier on loan from Manchester City and helped a lot in his development.
Tripier spent four years at Tottenham and then joined Atletico Madrid in 2019, winning the La Liga title with the team. He was also on the La Liga team of the year. He has made 19 appearances for Atletico this season, and his side are 15 points behind the leaders Real Madrid after three consecutive defeats.
Tripier has also made 35 appearances for England and has been a key player in the Three Lions' good performances in recent years.
Newcastle, who have won just one of their last 19 games this season, are 19th and hope to improve the situation by strengthening their squad in the winter transfer window.
