Terry takes up Chelsea’s coaching consultancy role

The ex-Blues captain joined his former side to take the role of coaching consultancy at the club’s academy.

John Terry

has taken up a role to deliver on-field coaching and helps with coaching discussions with colleagues. He will also mentor academy layers and support parent dialogue.

Former

Chelsea

captain Terry will start his job in January.

"

This flexibility is beneficial for both John and the academy, as it allows him to continue to develop his own coaching skills alongside other commitments, while being used optimally within our development programme,"

the club said.

Head of youth development

Neil Bath

added:

"We are delighted to be welcoming John back to Cobham in a role that will involve coaching and mentoring the next generation of young players in our academy.

"It goes without saying that John's experience in the game, both as a world-class player and more recently as an assistant coach in the Premier League, will be invaluable for everyone in the building.

"He will be a great mentor for our players and a fantastic asset to our coaching staff. We can't wait for him to get started."

The former

Aston Villa

assistant is a Chelsea academy graduate and played in 717 games for Chelsea, being the captain in 500 of those appearances. He also contributed to 17 trophy wins, including five

Premier League

titles and the Champions League.

The former England skipper departed Villa in the summer to become a manager.

He said at the time:

"It has always been my ambition to move into football management and, providing the right opportunity presents itself, I feel ready to take up such a challenge."

Terry helped Dean Smith, the ex-Villa boss, to get promoted from the Championship in 2019 as their three-year Premier League absence was put to an end with a victory over Derby.
