Premier League dealing with a rise in Covid-19 cases

The Brentford boss was speaking ahead of his side’s scheduled battle against Southampton on Saturday after their home game against Manchester United was canceled due to the rise of Covid-19 cases at Old Trafford.

Thomas Frank

was told that the club is now dealing with four more positive cases, having 13 staff and players involved in total.

The Dane believes that his side’s Carabao Cup quarter-finals should be rescheduled to “break the chain” influencing training grounds.

"

We think we should postpone the full round of Premier League games this weekend,"

he said.

"Covid cases are going through the roof at all Premier League clubs, everyone is dealing with it and having problems.

"To postpone this round and also the Carabao Cup round would give everyone a week at least, or four or five days to clean and do everything at the training ground so everything is clean and you break the chain."

Brighton

manager

Graham Potter

said that his side’s request to postpone their battle against Wolves was rejected by the

Premier League

.

He was talking after the Seagulls suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of Wolves, while they had many cases of Covid-19.

Premier League has called off three games in six days but a lot of games have also been postponed.

Matt Lowton, the

defender, was quizzed at a press conference on whether Frank’s request was a good idea, and he responded:

"I'm not sure to be honest.

"From my point of view, I just want to play football. I think from a player's point of view, we want to play - we want to come to the weekend and have the game, have the buzz, and that's what we've trained for all week.

"But obviously the safety of players, fans and things like that is paramount.  So hopefully the game can go ahead, but I can see why, if they did call it like that, you can see where they are coming from. Hopefully we can go ahead as safely as possible."

Gillingham, the League One side, have also had their stadium closed because of the Covid-19 cases. They will host Crewe on Saturday.

A club statement read:

"Given a number of positive COVID tests this morning amongst staff members, the Chairman has decided that, in the interests of safety of all personnel, the stadium should be closed immediately and staff asked to return to their homes."
