Quincy Promes to be prosecuted for attempted murder of cousin
Netherlands international Quincy Promes will be prosecuted for the attempted murder of his cousin.
The 29-year-old striker was arrested in December 2020 on suspicion of stabbing his cousin at a family gathering in Abcoude in July.
He was jailed for two days before being released, but the police investigation was ongoing until May of this year.
The Public Prosecution Service confirmed Promes will be charged and the case will be heard in court. There is no information on when the hearing will take place as of yet.
Promes
was at a family party in Abcoude when he got into an argument with a male family member. He is accused of stabbing the man with a knife, causing significant injuries.
The relative, who survived, has claimed that the attack was unprovoked, with police submitting an investigative file to the Prosecution Service in May.
Promes was playing for
Ajaxat the time of the incident, but joined
Spartakfor a second spell in February.
He last appeared for the
Netherlandsin their 2-0 defeat to the
Czech Republicin a Euro 2020 match in June.
Dutch national coach
Louis van Gaal
said he would not select Promes for the team while the criminal case against him was ongoing.
"I don't think I select players who are involved in such matters."
