Materazzi slams Thuram for anti-racism comments

The former Inter defender has reacted to Thuram’s comments about the responsibility of white players to fight against racism.

Former Juventus defender

Lilian Thuram

has become an anti-racism activist since hanging up his boots in 2008. In his recent interviews, the World Cup winner has urged white players to step up in the fight against racism.

“Don’t think like a black man don’t think like a white man, don’t think like a French or a Senegalese. Think like a human being,”

he told

La Gazzetta dello Sport

.

“If we want to be more intelligent, start saying things as they are. There is racism, sexism and homophobia in Italy, it doesn’t mean I don’t love Italy, it means I want to change things.”

Thuram’s comments are stated amid the rising cases of racist abuse in Serie A. Dusan Vlahovic, Franck Kessie, Tiemeoue Bakayoko, and Kalidou Koulibaly are among the players who have suffered racial abuse in the Italian top-flight this season.

“White players have an important role in this, they should make their voice heard,” Thuram said in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport last month.

“A non-white person must go beyond himself to get to the top. Football is politic, economy and capitalism.”

Former Azzurri defender

Marco Materazzi

reacted to Thuram’s comments on Saturday.

“I agree with Thuram, I am against racism, but I never saw Thuram leave the pitch when they were signing ‘Materazzi son of a b****’

“It depends on education, for the white, the black and the son of a b****.”
