Del Piero not surprised by Juve’s defeat against Napoli

The Bianconeri legend believes the Italian giants need more time to develop their new playing style.

Juventus have struggled to find their rhythm at the start of their current campaign under Massimiliano Allegri. Having seen Cristiano Ronaldo leave the club to join Manchester United, the newly appointed coach has not been able to form a successful team in the absence of the Portuguese superstar.

Following Juventus' 2-1 defeat against Napoli on Saturday,

Alessandro Del Piero

said the Bianconeri need more time to find their form.

“I am surprised by Juventus’ start, but not by their defeat against Napoli,”

Del Piero told

Sky Sport Italia.

“I think they are paying a few things. Everybody is talking about Cristiano Ronaldo because he left at the last moment and many other things.”

He added:

“With Allegri’s return, Juventus need time to resume different habits. Napoli have made a step forward with Spalletti,

“They are more mature, even when they went down, they tried to score calmly, with a serenity that is given by a man who is able to transmit this feeling.”

The former Azzurri star believes Juventus must forget about Ronaldo’s departure as they try to build a new team.

“Surely, the players are aware of the situation, the more experienced ones will play a key role, just as Allegri,”

Del Piero told

La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“It is vital to avoid any reference to the past, to the market, to who left. The only thing that matters is who is in the team now.

“The problem is not the table, but the performances. Those with more personality must step up now."

The Bianconeri must play against

Malmo

in their opening Champions League match of the season on Tuesday, before facing Milan in the league four days later.
