Messi will retire at Barcelona - Riquelme

The Argentine star left Barcelona this summer after 20 years.

Former

Barcelona

player Juan Roman Riquelme believes that Lionel Messi's relationship with the team is not over and that he will retire at the Spanish club after winning the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain.

The six-time Ballon d'Or winner ended his long stint at the club this summer after difficult financial circumstances that made it impossible for him to extend his contract. He is now looking for a fresh start in France and Riquelme believes he will return to Catalonia after earning honors in Paris Saint-Germain.

He said:

"Messi is the best because he likes to play ball. If PSG don't win the Champions League now with Messi, they don't win it anymore.

"I'm sure Messi is going to win the Champions League with Paris and retire with Barcelona."

Messi had reached an agreement with Barcelona before leaving the Camp Nou, but in the end the terms of the contract were not met and he left the club in an emotional farewell. Paris Saint-Germain also welcomed the Argentine star and signed a two-year contract with him as a free agent. Messi will be 36 years old at the end of his current contract with PSG. There has been a lot of talk about the possibility of him joining the MLS or returning to Argentina, but Barcelona have always stated that they would welcome the player back to his club.
