Upamecano returns to Munich after an injury in France training camp

The young French star will be out of action for some time.

Bayern Munich

defender Dayot Upamecano has been ruled out of France's World Cup qualifier with an injury.

Upamecano was included in Didier Deschamps' 23-man squad for France against Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ukraine and Finland. However, the 22-year-old defender suffered an injury and returned to Munich for recovery.

Bayern Munich confirmed this in a statement. The statement reads:

"Dayot Upamecano has made an early return to Munich. The Bayern defender has been forced to pull out of the France squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to muscular problems in his right thigh."

It is not clear how serious the injury is and how long the French defender will be out. Bayern will have an important match against Leipzig on September 11, and Upamecano's presence is still unknown.

France coach Julian Nagelsmann hopes his defender will be fully prepared to avoid a three-day Champions League clash with Barcelona.

Upamecano has been in the starting line-up for all four of Bayern's matches this season.
