Spain beat Japan to advance through Olympic football final

Spain vanquished Japan 1-0 in the extra-time of the men's Olympic football semi-final.

won the quarter-final in normal time as Japan were taken to penalties in their battle against New Zealand after 120 minutes without any goals, before defeating them 4-2 in the shootout.

Spain, meanwhile, thrashed Ivory Coast 5-2 in the extra-time. In today’s battle, the Spain squad were littered with players of Euro 2020.

During the first half of the battle between Japan and Spain, La Roja had a few chances but they missed them. Spain dominated the possession and Japan were mainly posing a threat on the counter.

Spain right-back

Oscar Gil

received a yellow card in the 13th minute for challenging Endo.

Rafa Mir

started the semi-final as an award for his impressive hat-trick during the battle against Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals.

The two sides failed to meet the back of the net during the 90 minutes of the clash and could not avoid the extra-time.

, who secured his side’s victory in the semi-final.
