Tottenham in pole position for Cristian Romero
Tottenham and Barcelona are the most interested in Cristian Romero, and it seems Tottenham are in pole position for Atalanta’s defender as Barcelona could only afford him on loan.

has been attracting interest from many top European clubs since he was named the best Serie A defender in 2020-21.
According to multiple reports, Atalanta are not willing to let him go for less than €50-60 million.
Romero joined Atlanta on a two-year loan deal with an option to buy for €16 million from Juventus.
La Dea just paid €2 million for the player’s loan.
Tottenham have already offered €45 million plus add-ons which is still not enough for Atalanta.
On the other hand, Barcelona have also submitted an official offer but according to the reports they can only afford him on loan.
Barcelona are struggling with financial issues because of the coronavirus pandemic. They also need to sell some of their players in order to free up wages to extend Lionel Messi’s contract.
Therefore, it seems signing the Argentina international this summer is not an option for the club.
It seems now that Tottenham are in pole position for Romero, however, they also need to meet Atalanta’s requests in order to sign him on a permanent deal.
