Alaba tested positive for Covid-19

The new Real defender will have to cope with coronavirus for 2 weeks.

Real Madrid

have confirmed that new defender David Alaba has contracted the Covid-19 virus.

Alaba joined Real Madrid in the summer transfer window from Bayern Munich and will replace Sergio Ramos at the center of the team's defense. He will also wear number 4 Ramos and the club has opened a special account for him. However, in the beginning of the pre-season training, Alaba faced a big problem. He has Covid-19 and is unable to accompany the team in training for two weeks.

Real Madrid announced in a statement.

Alaba, 28, has signed a five-year deal with Real Madrid. He was added to the Whites' squad as a free agent. Now he has to be in quarantine for a while, which may affect his readiness for next season. Alaba teammate Karim Benzema also recently tested positive for Covid-19, which ruled him out of a friendly against Rangers. Alaba was not selected for this game and has not yet played in a Real shirt.

The Whites, who started the pre-season with a 2-1 defeat to Rangers, will host AC Milan on August 8.

The week after that match, they will start their first game in La Liga against Alaves.
