Neal Maupay’s online abuser given nine-month probation

Brighton forward Neal Maupay was subjected to abusive messages on social media, including death threats, and the 19-year-old man behind the messages is given nine-month probation.

The first person outside the UK to be found guilty of sending abusive messages to a player in the Premier League is Derek Ng.

The Premier League and authorities in Singapore investigated the matter, tracked him down and arrested him earlier this year.

When

Neal Maupay

received the messages on

Instagram

, Premier League’s online abuse system investigated the issue and tracked the person down.

The messages were sent when Maupay netted a late winner for

Brighton

in the battle against

Arsenal

last June.

In June 2020, the league decided to launch an online abuse reporting system for the players, managers, and their families to report such incidents.
