Heaton won’t give up on being Man United’s #1

The 35-year-old goalkeeper, who started his career at Manchester United, will reportedly rejoin the club on a two-year deal from Aston Villa.

According to the

Sky Sports

, the former Burnley and England goalkeeper, who started his career as a trainee with the Red Devils in 2002, has told friends he plans to push hard to become his boyhood’s club number one goalkeeper.

With United’s current third goalkeeper, Sergio Romero, planning to leave the club this summer, Heaton is likely to replace him as Manchester United’s third goalkeeper as doubts over the future of fourth-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant, whose contract expires this summer, have been raising.

As the #1 goalkeeper, Dean Henderson took over league duties from De Gea at the start of March. Although United only lost one game in nine encounters, poor performance in the United’s 4-2 home defeat to Liverpool brought De Gea back to the United’s goal.

However, missing a crucial penalty in the Europa League final, David de Gea will bear the brunt of the criticism in the immediate aftermath of the defeat as he failed to save any of Villarreal’s 11 penalties.
