Liverpool should sell Salah this summer - James

The former England goalkeeper believes that Liverpool will perform better without Salah.

Former England goalkeeper David James believes

Liverpool

are doing better on the pitch in the absence of Mohamed Salah.

Salah, who has been the club's top scorer since joining Liverpool in 2017, scoring 125 goals in 203 games, has helped the Reds win the Premier League and Champions League. Salah also performed well last season, scoring 22 goals, second only to Harry Kane as the league's top scorer.

However, Liverpool did not perform well this season and finished in the top four last week. Now David James now claimed that Liverpool are playing better without Salah on the pitch.

He told

“In my eyes, he might be second in the Golden Boot running, but I think Liverpool actually play better without Salah."

“The opportunity for Liverpool to maybe cash in on Salah… as you say, [Diogo] Jota then naturally fits into that front three, [Roberto] Firmino gets more freedom arguably.

“Then Liverpool have a new dynamic up front rather than what seems to be a reliance, or has been a reliance, on Salah’s goals.”

Asked if Liverpool should sell Salah this summer, James responded:

“Yeah, tomorrow. I’d do it now. This is not about Mo Salah not being a good player, his goal record speaks for itself.

“Similar in statistics to someone like [Sergio] Aguero, where Pep Guardiola can look at Man City and not need Aguero.

“I think Liverpool’s fluidity is compromised by Salah, even though he scores."
