Mislintat questions Arteta’s decision to loan Guendouzi and Torreira

The German insists that the Spaniard made a mistake by loaning the two players to other clubs during last summer.

Former

Arsenal

transfer chief, Sven Mislintat, believes that Mikel Arteta’s decision to loan

Matteo Guendouzi

and

Lucas Torreira

to

Hertha

and

Atletico Madrid

respectively was a mistake.

Mislintat told

The Athletic

:

"I respect Mikel a lot. I’d love to talk to him one day, to understand his reasons for sending Matteo as well as Lucas Torreira on loan, and tell him my view in relation to their qualities.”

"But it’s his decision of course. My personal opinion remains that Matteo would still add some extra qualities to Arsenal’s midfield, like Lucas could.”

"Their market values increased hugely after their debut season."

During his time with Arsenal, Guendouzi became a major presence for Arteta’s squad, but it is reported that his behaviour was what led him to join Herta.

Following his arrival at the

Bundesliga

side, the Frenchman was also seen having an argument with

Matheus Cunha

for which Paul Dardai decided to condemn him to the bench after questioning his maturity level.

Still Mislintat insists that the 21-year-old needs better management.

"I disagree with Pal. If you’re not playing Matteo in midfield, it must be a very strong midfield,"

he said.

"He’s a young central midfielder. In that position, players reach their peak at 27-28. He obviously doesn’t get everything right but he plays with a decisiveness and quality that make him an extraordinary player.”

"You shouldn’t try to change his game but work on the details to improve him, if you are able to do so, you make him a 'monster' midfielder."

On the other hand, Torreira has yet to earn a regular spot in Diego Simeone’s squad, but with only a year left to his contract with the Gunners he may be open to leaving the Emirates Stadium for a permanent deal.

Guendouzi is also said to be keen on leaving Arsenal with his contract that is due to expire in the summer of 2022.
