Mick McCarthy delighted to see Sanogo miss spot-kick

A point was enough to extend

McCarthy

's

unbeaten start as Cardiff manager to 11 games and lift them to seventh, one point behind Championship’s play-off position.

The former Republic of Ireland boss admitted he was happy to see Sanogo miss the penalty against his side after they could not sign him.

He said:

“I’m so glad Sanogo missed the penalty because we were in discussions with him to come to us. We couldn’t do it because of Brexit and the Welsh FA rules, but he’s managed to come to an English club and Huddersfield have signed him.

“When he lined up to take the penalty I thought it would be Sod’s Law that he would score because that’s what usually happens in football, so I was delighted when it went wide.

“It was a really tough game. We didn’t particularly play well, even though we were really solid, but we probably got done by our busy schedule in terms of our energy levels.

“We had to scrap it out and it was a case of if you can’t win it, don’t get beat. That’s what we did and I don’t think a point is ever a bad result at Huddersfield.”
