Fosu-Mensah will miss European Championship due to an ACL injury

The Dutch full-back, who joined Leverkusen from Manchester United this January, has picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury during his side’s Bundesliga 2-1 defeat to Freiburg on Sunday.

After getting his boot stuck in the pitch, the 23-year-old has damaged his knee seriously and will be forced to spend the next few months on the sidelines.

Fosu-Mensah confirmed the ACL injury diagnosis to

Voetbalzone

as Peter Bosz had predicted it on Sunday.

"We hope for something else, but fear a cruciate ligament injury

," Bosz told in his post-match interview.

Fosu-Mensah will probably be out between six to eight months to heal his ACL injury completely.
